I have a remote SQL Server (SQL 2008 R2 Enterprise SP1) that I want to use for my FIM databases. I'm using my account, a sysadmin on the SQL Server, to perform the FIM 2010 R2 Sync Service installation. SQL Server is using the default instance. The firewall is off on both FIM and SQL Servers via GPO.
When I specify the remote SQL Server, I get the message:
Forefront Identity Manager Synchronization Service is having trouble contacting SQL server using the provided information. Please note that Forefront Identity Manager Synchronization Service requires Microsoft SQL Server 2008 SP1 or better. Verify the version, server and instance names as well as firewall settings and try again.
Thoughts? I saw a note that FIM 2010 (not R2) didn't support SQL 2008 R2 until a particular patch, but I'd imagine this doesn't apply to FIM 2010 R2 given it was just released.
